Full Dr M Update

Ever since we met Dr. M in our English class we thought it would be wonderful if she could work at the Koutiala Hospital for women and children. But she wasn’t a believer so we wondered how that could ever become a reality. Last year just about this time we offered the Seven Signs to God study to our students and she was the only one who continued the study right through the month of fasting. The last study was about Jesus and what he has done for us. She listened intently and at the end when we asked her “What do you think of Jesus”? Her response took our breath away, “He’s the Messiah and he died for me”! 

This was the first fruit of our English class ministry. 

Almost immediately when our colleagues in Koutiala heard about this young woman doctor and her confession of faith they wanted her to work there. But we felt that she needed to have some discipleship before that. So along with many of you we began to pray that God would lead us to the point when we could introduce her to the hospital. 

Gradually, the clinic where she’s been working kept cutting back the hours of all the workers and she began looking for any kind of work. Imagine, a qualified doctor applying to be a nanny or a house worker! 

Then we found out that one of doctors from the hospital would be coming to Bamako this coming weekend – so the praying and planning began – would it be possible for her to return to Koutiala with Saskia and see the hospital? Would her mother agree to let her leave so soon after the death of her father? With Dr. M being the oldest in the family we weren’t sure. You should have seen her eyes light up last Saturday when I asked if she would like to go there for a visit. Then she wisely responded, “I’ll ask my mother and let you know.” 

We continued to pray that God’s will would be done here on earth as it is in heaven. Two days ago she texted me “The answer is yes, I can go!”. So on Sunday afternoon she will head back to Koutiala with Saskia, our Dutch colleague and doctor at the hospital. We will be having her here for lunch to meet Saskia on Saturday. Will you pray for wisdom for everyone as we meet together?
