In May, the Bamako district did a week of outreach in the town of Maraka Coungo (see "and how was YOUR Saturday?"). When they got there, the leaders of the majority religion there made it difficult for them to hold their first meeting. The second day, the believers found their site all set up for a competing outdoor event. In spite of the resistance and competition, the village chief and mayor's office supported their right to present Jesus to the people and large crowds came out.
By the end of the week, 100 had put their trust in Christ. The next Sunday they were ready to hold the town's first-ever worship service to honor our Lord. They had to move to another property because the owner of their original one decided (probably under pressure) that he didn't want them to rent his. The mayor stepped in and let them hold their services on land that he owns. 80 people came, a very high number for our country.
The district has asked retired pastor Jacques Togo to do follow-up with the new believers. He's the perfect choice to encourage and help them reach maturity in their faith.
